At Kids Pelvic Surgery, we strive to make your family’s visit to be safe and comfortable. We’re here to answer your questions and provide you with useful information about getting here. We will also address what you need to bring, and what you should know about our facilities.

Before Coming to Hospital

Appointment:

    1. Do get the appointment so that you must not face the difficulty. To get an appointment, visit Contact us
    2. Once our doctors see your child, he might need some blood tests or Ultrasound or X-rays. Almost all kinds of tests and laboratory investigations are available at our center or nearby within walking distance. So, do get information about expected tests and their charges. 
    3. Do bring all medical records and previous tests that had been done so that minimum new tests to be done. If any pictures of the child during his treatment had been taken, do bring them along with you.
    4. Schedule follow-up visits before you leave. This is an easy way to help make sure your child receives timely medical care. 
    5. If you have some insurance card, then bring it with you. Our hospital may accommodate a lot of Insurance companies. So it will be better, if you contact us before coming.

For Parents and Guardians

  • In addition to helping your child prepare for a stay, don’t forget about your needs too. Bring items to make yourself more comfortable. So bring any personal items you may need during this stay.
  • Books and magazines, or your laptop computer and wifi system
  • Toiletries for yourself, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, or other items
  • Your clothes as you might need to stay for a couple of. days 

For Patients

  • A comfortable change of clothes
  • Your child’s favorite toy, blanket, or comfort item
  • Special bottle, pacifier, or cups
  • Diapers or other Stoma care items (What you were previously using)

Do Not Bring to the Hospital

  • Electrical equipment, such as hair dryers or radios
  • Nail polish or nail polish remover
  • Valuables, such as jewelry

One day before surgery

  • If your child is having flu, fever, cough, runny nose. Then, do contact our team before coming as in this case, we may postpone the surgery.
  • Do talk to your child about his hospital stay, his upcoming surgery, and what he might have to face. Your encouragement matters a lot and doesn’t hide things and facts from your child. 
  • Give a thorough bath or shower before surgery. Also remove all make-up, nail polish, piercings, other jewellery, and contact lenses.
  • If any special instructions have been given to you regarding fees, like for gut preparation, then please do follow these instructions. 
  • Get the directions to the hospital from a map or navigation system. Arrange transport.

What he should eat?

It is very important to stop feeding your child before surgery. For different types of foods, different time is required 

  • Clear liquids 2 hours before surgery. These include water and clear soda, such as Sprite, apple juice (pulp-free); candies, ORS. 
  • Breast milk 4 hours before surgery 
  • Formula or milk 6 hours before surgery
  • All other foods 6 hours before surgery 

If your child takes any medications, particularly those with Ambiguous Genitalia, please feel free to ask about its instructions. 

  • If eating and drinking guidelines are not followed, then your child’s surgery will be delayed or canceled for your child’s safety.

Day of Surgery

Checklist 

Please make sure you bring the following information when you check-in and register:

    • Pack all clothes, bottles, milk, any other required items
    • All medical Record kept in the bag
    • Child’s medications, stoma bag items, or any other items 
    • Insurance card (if you have it)
    • Remove all jewelry items from the child’s body
    • Given bath to the child before coming to the hospital
    • Have followed feeding guidelines
    • Called at Kids Pelvic Surgery to confirm surgery appointment

    Telemedicine Consultations:

    If you can’t travel from a distant area and you want a consultation for your child, please let us know. We have tele-health options for patients that live too far to travel to our clinic for one visit. You can choose to have a video conference and we will make sure that all arrangements are done. Then, our doctors can give you advice through the Telehealth program.

    Food options

    Kids Pelvic Surgery is located in the center of Rawalpindi City. So you have a huge variety of options to look for near our center. There are a lot many options to look for in Commerical Market, Food Street, Banni, and Saidpur Road. So you can enjoy a huge variety within walking distance.

    Residence options

    When your child is in hospital, you will be given a room that can accommodate one to two persons along with the child. If you are coming for a consultation or Bowel Management Program from another city, you might need a residence.

    There are many hotels available nearby the clinic, with varying rents and charges.

    Our Reception staff can help you in getting some hotel at a nominal price. As we have requested some of them to give subsidised rates to our patients and their families. For more information, please contact Mr.Shams

    Medical Record Request

    As per our hospital’s policy, all of your records can be provided to you or your primary physician. All we need is a signed medical records consent form the doctor who needs the records. Also provide the doctor’s email address.

    Bowel Group for Kids is a registered, Australian-based charity dedicated to providing emotional support to families of children born with Hirschsprung’s disease, imperforate anus, anorectal malformations and associated conditions. 

    Hirschsprung’s & Motility Disorders Support Network is an organization that connects families that have children with Hirschsprung’s disease or other gastrointestinal motility disorders.

    Parents Helping Parents meets the needs of individuals and their families with any special needs, including illness, accidents, birth defects, neurological conditions, learning or physical disabilities, mental health issues, etc. 

    Pull-thru Network (PTN) is one of the largest organizations in the world dedicated to the needs of those born with an anorectal malformation or colon disease and any of the associated diagnoses. PTN offers a private Yahoo email group just for girls ages 11-13. Please contact PullthruNetwork@gmail.com for more information. 

    The United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that supports, empowers and advocates for people who have had or who will have ostomy or continent diversion surgery. 

    The VACTERL Network was established to provide support to families who have a child born with VACTERL/VATER or adults with VACTERL. The purpose of their organization is to share resources, tips and information among families.
